China fireproof painting Factory His mural The Life of the Medieval Saints has been described as the single most important work of the twentieth century. More importantly a new generation of Indian artist who were revisiting the tradition of figuration and narration in Indian art and its affinities in world art recognized him as a worthy predecessor.."Benode Behari Mukherjee is one of the first students of Kala Bhavan at Shantiniketan who transformed the institution into a seminal centre in India."Blindness did not deter Benodebehari from remaining creative. In this he was a pioneer in Indian art.

And with it he was born once again posthumously. By then this intensely thoughtful and self-effacingly reticent artist was recognized not only as a symbol of indomitable spirit but also as a modern artist to be reckoned with. He left Santiniketan for good in December 1972, and moved first to Dehra Dun, and then to Delhi where his sculptor daughter Mrinalini Mukherjee had settled. He is not only an important artist, one of the best among the best. He won several honours including the Padma Vibushan, the second highest civilian award, and Rabindra Puraskar a coveted award for literature.  This fame has been considered to be a multi-talented one as well.Talking about the style that made the artist what he has been Kumar voices, "He made a clean break from the tradition of mythological and historical paintings that stretched from Ravi Varma to the Bengal School artists of his time. That being agreed, I hope you will also accept that (even 38 years after his death) he is not as well recognised as many others who you consider important and that in itself is a good reason for having a major exhibition of his work. Already a writer on art since the 1940s he now wrote some remarkable texts including a history of the beginnings of modern art education in India, two autobiographical pieces and a few longer meditations on art, literature and their values in different cultures. Siva Kumar shares how eminent an artist Mukherjee is.Spanning various periods of the artists oeuvre, an exhibition has recently been held in Delhis Vadhera Art Gallery to acknowledge Benode Behari Mukherjee through multiple lenses including glimpses of him through his own eyes, presented through a series of self-portraits; a selection of intimate sketches of flora that reveal the significance of minute details in his vocabulary, speaking not only of how he saw the world due to his limited eyesight but focusing on the significance of linear form in his understanding of space; his landscapes, preparatory drawings and paintings, which lend themselves to analysis by anyone wanting to engage with Mukherjees unique understanding of space. Mukherjee has set an example of what one can and possibly cannot do even with physical boundaries.Curator R. From 1958 to 1972 besides teaching Art History at Kala Bhavana he did paper cuts, drawings, prints and even a mural with some assistance from others. He died in Delhi on 19th November 1980. Such an artist, I hope you will agree, needs to be better known."Benode Behari MukherjeeThe 70s brought Benode recognition as an artist and writer.

As one comes across the glimpses of the artists work, one is bound to believe in the inner power that rests within everybody. He says,"Let me tell you why Benode Behari is important. He also drew upon several Eastern and European antecedents to develop an independent style that is internally coherent. He replaced it with an art that brought the the subjectivity of the artist to the centre of his practice and brought it to bear on the way he looked at the world. The British critic Timothy Hyman, discussing Benodebeharis method of painting this mural, in his recent book on Figurative Painting in the Twentieth Century wrote: "No one in the modern West has dared to paint on the wall so directly as this, nor achieved this fusion of a monumental public scale with such lyrical and tender voice. Agreeing to which the art enthusiast and curator of this exhibition shares, "He is, without any doubt, the first major muralist, if not the most important modern muralist India has had.

Be it on a vacation to exotic locations or in the comfort of their homes, everything seems to be perfect for the two people madly in love.Social media analyst Karthik Srinivasan says, "

Western multinationals are setting up sweatshops where cheap labour with no union rights is available. This is the scourge of the times. But one needs to factor in lifestyle diseases, a high level of morbidity, burgeoning غير مجاز مي باشدt of health care and inaccessibility to services which undermine the quality of life of a large number of people.Through struggles the working masses have made the world a somewhat better place to live in. This reflects the growth of an idle rich, which is at the root of growing inequalities. The working class parties of Eastern Europe and China neglected democracy and the regimes tottered.Undoubtedly the world has become a better place to live in when compared with the past three centuries. Like any other hypothesis advanced by partisans as well as neutral observers, his views are to be taken with caution. Though absolute standards have gone up, relative inequality has risen.

The book by Thomas Picketty, Capital in 21st Century, has clearly described how inequalities in advanced and other countries have gone up and this is becoming a menace to social life. This has fuelled protectionism and racism instead of workers’ ire against the capitalists. The western democracies too are becoming a façade and becoming shells within which the oligarchies thrive. The dark China well cementing additives Suppliers days of industrial revolution vividly described by Friedrich Engels in his book Condition of the Working Class in England have given way for more social security and labour rights. They are too stark to be ignored. The labour force is facing increased informalisation. The superrich get taxed less and inheritance income is growing as against earned incomes. The late Professor Hans Rosling has stated stylised facts to prove the case that the world has become a better place. Anxieties are growing despite improvements. World has become a better place. Scales are tilting against the have-nots.Data can show that world is becoming a better place. These are intuitive and empirical realities. The post-revolutionary regimes too became ossified and the world did not become a place devoid of the evils of the past.Workers of the world are not uniting but getting fragmented. The pie of GDP is large but a larger share of the pie is taken by a smaller section. But it is a highly unequal place, too. The state authority is intruding into the private life of citizens and courts have to interfere more often than not to correct the wrongs. But all revolutions including the French and Russian had a meandering course.

The same data when compared in a different matrix can give a totally different picture. The days of Oliver Twist and David Copperfield are no longer living realities. Global inequality has gone down, but within country inequalities have increased. Nothing is absolutely true. They reap super profits and the labour in their own countries face loss of jobs.Life expectancy has gone up. But that happened after much bloodshed in places like Chicago.(The author is Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram). This Prof Rosling too admits. In this division, evils of an unjust system are being perpetrated.Communal divide and extremist views loom large on the horizon. The worst of all, corrective individual voices are becoming fewer. One cannot paint a one-sided picture.
